What is a Forest School?

Forest School provides a unique outdoor learning experience for children, young people and adults through engagement with nature, promotion of individual and group challenges, adventure, games, art and crafts.
This woodland location is an environment that inspires creativity and imagination, where learners are taken away from the hustle and bustle of busy life, the pressures of the classroom, work, family and home and can recharge their senses and develop new perspectives to the challenges of our modern society.
Research shows that the process and nature of a Forest School experience and wider outdoor learning can bring many benefits to participants including increased physical and mental health and wellbeing, emotional literacy, confidence and self-esteem, communication skills, group work skills, problem solving and greater knowledge and understanding of self, community and the natural environment.
The Forest School leadership team are professionally qualified and experienced adult volunteers.
The Forest School work approach is to facilitate the following:
● Promote children’s and young people’s self-awareness, confidence and participation;
● Work with young people in promoting their ambitions;
● Safeguard the health and welfare of young people;
● Promote inclusion, equality and diversity.
What to expect at Forest School?
During Forest School sessions children will be experiencing a whole range of different activities including: team building, trust exercise, bush craft, activities involving tools, a variety of crafts and be taught how to safely build and stock a fire. Most activities will naturally involve numeracy and literacy, but the most important factors include children benefiting from being in an outdoors environment for a length of time and learning through play and creativity. Children will also be entrusted to help set up and pack away carefully, taking responsibility for ‘their’ woodlands.
Where are we located?
We are located just 10 minutes outside Old Colwyn in the beautiful rolling hills of the Welsh countryside.
